The Spark Angel Investment Network has 2 objectives:
- To give investors access to private-equity investment opportunities in firms that are market-ready with explosive growth potential.
and - To provide companies possessing innovative products, services or processes access to growth capital.
Focusing on firms primarily in the Durham-Northumberland area, the Spark Angel Investment Network enables high net worth individuals to allocate a small proportion (3% – 7%) of their investable assests into a diversified (self-selected) portfolio of early-stage ventures. Becoming a ‘member’ will be of interest to those looking to allocate $25k+ of their investment portfolio to such private-equity opportunities.
Members share their experience and expertise, collaborate on the due diligence process and provide mentoring guidance, to the investee companies thereby reducing their risk and exposure on any particular investment opportunity and increasing their degree of involvement and understanding in their private-equity investments.
Over the last several years, organized Angel networks, in Canada, have generated an internal rate of return in excess of 27%. The average investment period is 3 – 4 years and upon exit the average return on investment is 2.6 dollars ‘out’ for every dollar invested ‘in’.
The Spark Angels vision is to become the “angel group of choice” for members seeking superior financial returns from innovative, emerging technology firms and those who want participate in a creative and interesting local organization that respects and practices high ethical standards.
The Spark Angel Investment Network’s goal is to provide the financial ‘spark’ and will act as a supportive linkage between local entrepreneurs, seeking early and mid-stage capital, and investors with a commitment to the economic development of the Region and to the entrepreneurial spirit of within our community.
We are committed to providing quality investment support and coaching to market-ready companies, thereby ensuring they have the best opportunity for growth and expansion in their industry.
